Rousimar Palhares won"t be punished by CSAC for holding onto submission after tap

The California State Athletic Commission will not be punishing Rousimar Palhares, even though he held onto his winning kneebar submission against Jon Fitch a shade too long.

Andy Foster, the CSAC executive director, told MMA Fighting that he was angry Saturday night at World Series of Fighting 16 in Sacramento after the incident in the main event. But after consulting with referee Ed Collantes and watching video of the finish over and over again Monday, Foster determined he would not take any action against the Brazilian fighter.

LAS VEGAS – Travis Browne directed the old school fashion of combatants like Mark Coleman on Saturday night.

Browne used some schoolyard-bully earthandpound to finish off Brendan Schaub at UFC 181. Referee Mario Yamasaki called off the heavyweight fight in the Mandalay Bay Events Center at 4:50 of the first round.

Trevor Smith files appeal to overturn controversial KO loss at UFC Fight Night 56

Caio Magalhaes scored his fourth straight win in the UFC with a 31-second knockout over Trevor Smith at UFC Fight Night 56, but the middleweight contest ended in controversial fashion.

After rocking Smith with a knee and a left cross, Magalhaes knocked him down with a hammerfist that clearly hit the back of Smith’s head. The Nova Uniao fighter kept landing hammerfirsts, some of those in the back of the head, and referee Keith Peterson stopped the fight.

UBERLANDIA, Brazil — Ovince Saint Preux was not intending to participate in a slugfest with Mauricio Rua at UFC Fight Night 56, and he did not want to after all.

With just 34 seconds in the key occasion battle in Uberlandia, Brazil, on Nov. 8, OSP joined a tremendous left hand that dropped the former light heavyweight champ to the earth. A couple more punches pushed referee Mario Yamasaki to stop the punishment.

ONE FC 22 results: Igor Svirid stuns Leandro Ataides in 17 seconds to claim initiative middleweight strap

Another night of unpredictable finishes finished with the fastest of all of them, as Kazakhstan’s own Igor Svirid stunned previously unbeaten Leandro Ataides to capture the inaugural ONE FC middleweight tournament in his magnificent 17-second promotional introduction at ONE FC 22.

Svirid (10-1) entered the fight a gambling underdog, but the story of the fight transformed with the 28-year old’s really first punch — a straight jab which caught Ataides (8-1) flush and lost him. Ataides immediately staggered back to his feet, but Svirid swarmed and overwhelmed the Brazilian with clouts, sending him crashing back to the mat having a terrible short right from the fence followed by a speedy right uppercut. Referee Yuji Shimada jumped in to stop the match, as well as the stunned Singapore crowd erupted as Svirid was given ONE FC’s first middleweight belt.
