Rousimar Palhares won"t be punished by CSAC for holding onto submission after tap

The California State Athletic Commission will not be punishing Rousimar Palhares, even though he held onto his winning kneebar submission against Jon Fitch a shade too long.

But after consulting with referee Ed Collantes and watching video of the finish over and over again Monday, Foster determined he would not take any action against the Brazilian fighter.

TUF 20 Finale salaries: Carla Esparza earns $50,000 for UFC title win

No surprise here, but if you’re fighting on The Ultimate Fighter, it’s better on your wallet to make the finals. UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza handily out-earned the rest of her fellow TUF 20 castmates at Friday’s The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale, pocketing $50,000 for her main event win according to figures released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Despite being the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed and reigning Invicta FC champion, Esparza entered her finals bout against 22-year-old Rose Namajunas as a betting underdog. It didn’t matter though, as Esparza dominated Namajunas with her wrestling before securing a third-round submission finish to be crowned the UFC’s inaugural 115-pound champion.

Francisco Rivera will appeal entry loss to Urijah Faber due to eye poke

Francisco Rivera will appeal his submission loss to Urijah Faber on Saturday night at UFC 181 in Las Vegas with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC), Rivera told MMA Fighting.

Rivera said after discussing the situation along with his manager Jason House, it was something he felt like he needed to do. In the 2nd round, Faber certainly poked Rivera in a person’s eye, sending Rivera up from the cage, covering his face certainly in pain. Faber swarmed, landed punches and eventually cinched in a bulldog choke for the tapout success at 1:34 of the round.

The first of these were administered by the Nevada Athletic Commission a couple weeks back, the results of which have yet to be revealed (Nevada is testing even though the bout is in California because the drug tests were a condition of his being re-licensed in the state).

One-legged combatant Matt Betzold only needs to be able to get hit in the face like everyone else

By definition, at least according to the commission, Matt Betzold exists as a downed opponent. That means no knees to the head or high kicks from whatever enemy stands across from him. Years back, the Arizona Boxing Commission attempted to pass that idle detail off as evidence to refuse Betzold his permit to fight professionally, since if you did not understand, having one leg can seemingly be a fairly huge edge in a cage fight.

The whole thing ended up being naturally and comically criminal.
