Nick Diaz: "Most combatants for the large part" like their steroids

For all his previous drug test predicaments — and yes, there happen to be a few — Nick Diaz has consistently remained vocally consistent on his strict anti-PED position. So it simply goes without saying that when Diaz returns from his close two-year hiatus to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 183, he will be pleased to do this in a climate which is a lot more rigorous than the one he left in March 2013.

“I like that, it is great,” Diaz lately said of the UFC’s increased drug testing attempts in The MMA Hour.

Ben Rothwell: Increased drug testing in MMA has resulted in raised harms

While it appears like years ago now, only at that time last year Ben Rothwell was mired in what he calls the “lowest point” of his career. Rothwell, a expert heavyweight who at the time was prescribed testosterone replacement treatment (TRT), tested positive for elevated rates of testosterone in the wake of a spectacular Aug. 2013 triumph over Brandon Vera. The UFC acted quickly, handing down a nine-month suspension that had the 33-year old agonizing over his incorrect turn.

“I did not understand what I was doing, I felt like I wanted it (TRT),” Rothwell declared on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “I was getting endocrinologists and physicians who have been like: ‘If you can achieve so, then you definitely should. That is about your health. That isn’t about fighting, it is going to assist you.’ Matters of this nature.
