Experts respond to UFC-Reebok sponsorship, new uniform plan

The future of sponsorships in mixed martial arts radically changed on Tuesday, as the UFC and Reebok declared a landmark six-year deal that will efficiently replace in-cage fighter patrons having a uniform supplied by Reebok. Whether this shift will finally be a positive or negative net increase on combatants’ wallets remains to be seen — details of the recent tiered payout system are, only at that point, foggy — but there is no underselling the value UFC’s conclusion here.

Check out reactions to the statement from professional combatants both in and out from the UFC below, which we’ll be upgrading occasionally through the entire day.

Morning Report: Rory MacDonald says he had never fight Georges St-Pierre and "stab him in the back"

Although former UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and his protege Rory MacDonald claim to have never seriously discussed the matter, the pair hasn’t wavered over refusing to fight one another.

Calling St Pierre ‘one of the more welcoming individuals’ during his 2010 move to Montreal’s Tristar Gym, MacDonald says the then-champ never handled him like a future challenge.

Jon Jones does not believe "class act" Bill Cosby is guilty of claims

Jon Jones expects the damning accusations against renowned comic Bill Cosby aren’t accurate — and he does not consider they’re. Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by at least 15 distinct girls. TMZ cameras caught Jones outside LAX and asked him what he thought of the allegations.”I do not believe Bill Cosby would do that,” the UFC light heavyweight champ said. “I have never met him, but from what I have seen he appears to be a class act. I kind of grew up respecting him as a black performer and that i actually expect that is not accurate.”Jones, not taking the dialogue quite seriously, additionally did an imitation of Cosby from his Jello advertisements and insinuated the “Cosby Show” star did not want to assault girls, because he was loaded.”he is Bill Cosby — he should not have to take it,” a laughing Jones said, making a giving-away-cash gesture with his hands. Netflix, TV Land and NBC have all cut ties with Cosby, foregoing prospective future jobs. The 77-year old has never been convicted nor even tried for any alleged offenses.

Luke Rockhold: "Not a opportunity" Jon Jones ever defeats Cain Velasquez

it is been years since Jon Jones first teased an ultimate move up to heavyweight. With his lanky 6-foot-4 body and UFC-greatest 84.5-inch reach, the reigning light heavyweight champion and No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport has consistently considered he had be competitive in MMA’s hardest-striking department.

But now, using the UFC’s 205-pound weight class, at most, two or three fights away from being cleared out, Jones has started plotting out a path for his future which includes possible superfights against heavyweight’s elite. So that begs a interesting question: could Jones stack up nicely against heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez in the event the two met in a hit fight next year?

Frankie Edgar intends to give UFC brass no choice when it comes to awarding him a title shot

For all of the talk of the UFC featherweight division and its seemingly uncrowned (media) king Conor McGregor, there’s surprisingly little of it coming from or headed towards Frankie Edgar. The top featherweight contender and former lightweight champion has one of the most important fights for the division’s future on Saturday when he takes on Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night 57 in Austin, Texas. Yet, most of the talk is centered on Swanson or McGregor or simply other top contenders.

As far as Edgar is concerned, there’s no sense in being worried in things over which he has no control.

Morning Report: Georges St-Pierre still unsure of return, makes his prediction for Johny Hendricks" rematch with Robbie Lawler

It’s now been a year since Georges St-Pierre stepped into the Octagon, but the former UFC welterweight champion says he isn’t much closer to deciding his future involvement in the sport.

“I don’t know if I will go back to competition,” St-Pierre told MMA Canada this weekend in Toronto. “That’s why I didn’t call it ‘a retirement,’ I called it ‘a break’ because I don’t know. [Light heavyweight boxer] Bernard Hopkins has a good analogy. He says, ‘You can’t ask a woman who just gave birth and suffered for many hours if she will have another baby again.’ Same thing for me when I got out of competition.”

With UFC recovery looming, Dan Miller making a habit of little wonders

From the time Dec. 20 rolls around, 21 months will have passed between fights for UFC expert Dan Miller, the older brother of lightweight warhorse Jim Miller. Surely the older Miller isn’t a stranger to wonders — his four-and-a-half-year-old son, Dan Jr., persevered through a kidney transplant to survive polycystic kidney disease — but for father, this latest recovery is no little wonder itself.

Much like recordbreaking NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, escalating neck problems driven Miller to get spinal fusion operation in July of this past year. Heading to the operating room, Miller’s fighting future was far from ensured.
