Never a lack of issues, is there?

it is the Wednesday after three largely important occasions in the realm of combat sports. There was a lackluster main event, but most of the card ended up having worth.

Gilbert Burns vs. Leandro Lo from Copa Podio

UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns took on Leandro Lo in a entry-only jiu jitsu match on Saturday as element of Copa Podio’s most recent occasion. Garry Tonon, jiu-jitsu"s consummate risk taker, prepares for Zak Maxwell

Metamoris’ existence is predicated on a number of things, not least of which is that submission-only competition can offer a truer (or at least alternative) glimpse into the talents of practitioners, something the points system obscures. That’s not necessarily true in all cases for all competitors, but it’s true enough that having a superfight series in a submission-only format fills the gap left by the points-based tournaments.

Whether true or not, that argument has little bearing on how Tom DeBlass black belt Garry Tonon competes. In a sport allegedly filled with those who embrace risk aversion as a means to winning, Tonon has patented a style that eschews that approach completely. As a result, he’s developed a fan following, too.

Chad Mendes wants to fight Ricardo Lamas "ASAP"

With this Saturday’s fight between Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar having conditional title implications in the featherweight division, the rest of the weight class is left battling for position.

Former No. 1 contender Chad Mendes, who lost his rematch with featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 179 in October, has zeroed in on the guy he’s like to see next — and that’s the other former No. 1 contender, Ricardo Lamas. According to UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani, who spoke to Mendes’ manager Mike Roberts, the Team Alpha Male fighter wants Lamas ‘ASAP.’

UFC 180 predictions

The UFC makes its first stop in Mexico with a card battered by injuries, but will have three key bouts in three key weight classes. At the top of the ledger is an interim UFC heavyweight title bout between Fabricio Werdum and Mark Hunt. Hunt is filling in on late notice for the injured Cain Velasquez, but the two arrive at this position having both redeemed themselves from low spots in their careers.

Will Werdum finally put UFC gold around his waist or is Hunt’s improbable run to the top set to continue? I answer these questions and more with my predictions for Saturday’s fights.

Dustin Poirier: "I still believe I could overcome [Conor McGregor]"

From the time it is all said and done, the fight week Dustin Poirier experienced at UFC 178 could very well turn out to be the worst of his career.

With Las Vegas devoured in Irish green, Poirier’s grudge match against Conor McGregor efficiently propelled itself to the unofficial main event of the pay per view card. By the finish of it, the cocksure Irishman took the air of a soothsayer, his forecast of a first-round knockout validated within just two minutes, while Poirier was left shell shocked and heartbroken, being forced to pick up the bits from a mostly anticlimactic operation.

One-legged combatant Matt Betzold only needs to be able to get hit in the face like everyone else

By definition, at least according to the commission, Matt Betzold exists as a downed opponent. That means no knees to the head or high kicks from whatever enemy stands across from him. Years back, the Arizona Boxing Commission attempted to pass that idle detail off as evidence to refuse Betzold his permit to fight professionally, since if you did not understand, having one leg can seemingly be a fairly huge edge in a cage fight.

The whole thing ended up being naturally and comically criminal.

Diego Sanchez: Conor McGregor will be his own downfall

The growing distaste for Conor McGregor amongst combatants understands no divisional limit it appears, as lightweight Diego Sanchez located himself ranting regarding the loquacious Irish featherweight to get an excellent eight minutes of his own accord during a Tuesday appearance in The MMA Hour.

“The matter is, when he jumped to the area, he began barking up the wrong dog’s street,” Sanchez said of McGregor. “Because I am among the men who put the bricks with this great career he’s having. I was among the ones who created this growth for the sport, I helped build the base with this huge building, as well as the man is simply disrespectful. He do not value it.

UFC 179 fight card: What Is at stake?

Conor McGregor is apparently getting an outrageous level of glow in the lead-up to the occasion, however this can be actually about featherweight champ Jose Aldo. He could be the last remaining Brazilian winner. I’d never go as far as proposing the market falls because state without him, but I’d underscore it could be more problematic than some understand. Every state enjoys and must find their countrymen do nicely, but Brazil appears to put additional emphasis on it (I do not understand if that is reasonable, but that is my read from afar). Keeping the title may be crucial to UFC’s attempts to nurture what’s among their top three markets.

None of this can be to undercut the realities in the floor. There are enormous swathes of ability across all weight classes there. The TV handle Globo is a godsend. But having winners – main combatants – is very important to a nation that turned around on MMA at a time when numerous Brazilians were enormous stars or belt holders and will lead a fresh upsurge in interest.

If this can be the ending, Wanderlei Silva leaves the sport having a complex legacy

Few combatants in history will find yourself having as complicated a heritage as Wanderlei Cesar da Silva, who announced his retirement on Friday in a videotaped interview that came across a nasty assault in the UFC and, four days after, may have close the door on a return.

The Nevada Athletic Commission’s indefinite suspension of Silva, that was outright categorized he would never be permitted to be licensed in the state again, looks to have been an administrative ending to his career, at least in the UFC, and probably America.

Morning Report: Roy Nelson considers UFC is sheltering Cain Velasquez, robbing lovers of the "Pacquiao vs. Mayweather" of MMA

Roy Nelson is hours away from needing to survive Mark Hunt’s overhand right, however he is still got time to dig at UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez.

According to Nelson, Velasquez continues to be sheltered, presumably by the UFC, so that you can shield him from, well, Nelson.

Morning Report: Fedor Emelianenko has no regrets about never fighting for UFC because "PRIDE had the greatest fighters in the world"

The never ending saga between UFC president Dana White and his white whale continues.

The rationales concerning why former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko never graced the Octagon depend on who you ask, but both he and White have spent years blaming the other for it never occurring. Now, Emelianenko says his heritage is not worse off by never having fought in the UFC because he confronted a higher degree of ability in Japan.

BRASILIA, Brazil — Being taller and having a longer reach does not always pay off in the UFC.
