SB Nation lightweight rankings: Who should get the next shot at Anthony Pettis?

Under normal circumstances, the question of which fighter deserves the next shot at Anthony Pettis‘ UFC lightweight title would seem pretty much cut-and-dried.

Rafael dos Anjos has been on a fine run over the past three years, winning eight of his past nine fights, with the most recent win a one-sided victory over Nate Diaz at UFC on FOX 13.

Bibiano Fernandes rips ‘insolent’ Dae Hwan Kim for illegal elbows

For the first time in his MMA career, Bibiano Fernandes finished a fight after going past the first round, but there’s a reason why Dae Hwan Kim survived that long at ONE FC 23.

The ONE FC bantamweight champion, who improved his winning streak to nine on Dec. 5, submitted Kim with a second-round rear-naked choke. However, he had to overcome a tough situation when Kim landed several illegal elbows to the back of his head in the opening round.

Pat Curran vs. Daniel Weichel, Julia Budd vs. Talita Nogueira slated for Bellator 133

Former Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran is slated to return to action on Feb. 27, 2015 against Daniel Weichel in the co-main event of Bellator 133, promotional officials announced Monday.

He’ll now look to get back on track against Weichel (34-8), a longtime veteran who captured season 10’s featherweight tournament title with consecutive wins over Scott Cleve, Matt Bessette, and Desmond Green.

It is been a while, but Junior dos Santos can grin again

PHOENIX, Ariz. — It did not take long for that old, goofy smile to creep back across Junior dos Santos’ face.

Fourteen months after Cain Velasquez ground him into an unrecognizable and bloody paste, seven months after his superhuman framework did not make its Brazilian homecoming, the guy they used to call o campeao danced his fiendish dance over the blue canvas at Wednesday’s UFC on FOX 13 open work outs, showing once again that there is few more frightening to observe carton the shadows.

Nick Diaz: "Most combatants for the large part" like their steroids

For all his previous drug test predicaments — and yes, there happen to be a few — Nick Diaz has consistently remained vocally consistent on his strict anti-PED position. So it simply goes without saying that when Diaz returns from his close two-year hiatus to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 183, he will be pleased to do this in a climate which is a lot more rigorous than the one he left in March 2013.

“I like that, it is great,” Diaz lately said of the UFC’s increased drug testing attempts in The MMA Hour.

Will Brooks: I believe I will overcome any lightweight in Bellator, UFC or WSOF

Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks has not seen his family since last Thanksgiving. Obviously, back then, he was not Bellator lightweight winner. A lot has changed for the burgeoning ability and as he heads home for christmas as the corporation ‘s undisputed lightweight champ, he recognizes this previous year continues to be one long, odd, but executing journey.

“it is insane. Brooks did not actually think of it like that, but yeah, it is accurate. It is been a tremendous reversal of occasions for me personally in this previous year,” Brooks told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s The MMA Hour. “Brooks believe I must credit that to being patient, being willing to give that time with being my family in Illinois and making your decision to move out here to Florida and train at American Top Team. I have made plenty of sacrifices this previous year, year along with a half. It is worthwhile. It actually brought me to where I’m now. I am happy I made the choices I made.”

Nick Diaz fires back at ‘old Georges’ St-Pierre: He"s ‘scared’ to fight Anderson Silva

While much has changed in MMA over the past few years, at least we can take comfort in knowing that fewer things still liven up a Nick Diaz interview faster than the mention of Georges St-Pierre’s name.

In classic Diaz fashion, Stockton’s favorite son meandered through a myriad of topics during Monday’s appearance The MMA Hour, from his near two-year layoff to his upcoming return fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 183. But without a doubt, the subject that fired Diaz up the most was his old welterweight rival, St-Pierre, and the former champ’s comments that Diaz “made a mistake” by accepting the fight against Silva at 185 pounds rather than a catchweight.
