Yoel Romero: Tim Kennedy cheated before "Stoolgate" incident at UFC 178

Yoel Romero spent almost 30 extra seconds on his stool before the start of the third round against Tim Kennedy. The way Romero sees it he should have gotten five full minutes of rest.

Romero told MMA Fighting that he believes the punches Kennedy rocked him with in the second round of their UFC 178 fight were illegal. Kennedy was holding onto Romero’s glove, an illegal maneuver, with his left hand while he was punching Romero with his right. A .gif of the sequence surfaced after the fact online, but Romero had not commented on it until now.

Ian McCall: "No one gives a s--t" about flyweights because Demetrious Johnson "has the character of my java mug"

On the surface, Ian McCall’s coming flyweight battle against John Lineker is easily the most consequential fight on what’s an otherwise thin UFC Fight Night 58 card next Saturday. Itis a matchup between top-six rated rivals, together with the victor touchdown in the driver’s seat to get another title shot against 125-pound champ Demetrious Johnson.

Yet still the flyweights find themselves going down the only road they have ever known — taking a backseat to your light heavyweight co-chief event consisted of of Ovince St. Preux versus the unheralded Francimar Barroso, a 1-1 UFC fighter who last dropped a split decision to the man Fabio Maldonado botched through at UFC 179.

Tim Kennedy faces Yoel Romero backstage after UFC 178

UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy had words for his UFC 178 competition Yoel Romero after their fight on Saturday night. Romero won the competition by quitting Kennedy with strikes in the 3rd round, but the fight had a contentious ‘stoppage’ between the 2nd and third round. While the call for ‘seconds outside’ was given prior to the start of the third and final round, Romero and his corner continued to remain with Romero sitting on his stool. This took place for almost 30 additional seconds, giving Romero time to recuperate when he was practically ended with strikes by the end of the next round.

In a Vine that is surfaced, Kennedy tells Romero that if your combatant struggles to start the round on time for some reason, he/she is likely to lose via TKO.

Fightweets: Will Nick Diaz"s arrests change his fight with Anderson Silva?

Bellator veered into rasslin’ territory and aired a farce of a skit involving a masked guy. The UFC welcomed Thiago Silva back to the fold. Joe Rogan bashed a hornet’s nest, then attempted to attribute the stick. Oh, and then news surfaced that Nick Diaz was detained for an alleged DUI, and an array of further infractions in its immediate wake, followed by the disclosure this was not his first such violation. Consider that with the terrible news coming forth from the NFL this week, and it is enough to make even the most serious contact sports enthusiast need to shut off their computer for awhile and get a hike.

But we move forward, MMA supporters. There was even some non-odious news this week, in the introduction of TUF 20 to tips a longtime winner might be pondering his return. So let us get right into another version of Fightweets handle the great, the poor, and also the awful.
